Picnic/Travel

Winter meals should be all about comfort and warmth. It's nice to have the oven on baking something, warming up the kitchen and perfuming the house with great smells.

It's nice to have some handy hors d'oeuvres on hand for guests that come by. The tapenade recipes are easy to make and keep well for a long time if they last that long.

Long simmering dishes like Meatballs in a Wine Tomato Sauce, a Black Bean Soup or the always comforting Chicken Congee are a delight. Chilis and stews with Cornbread or home baked breads make for a feast. A Cheese Fondue on a cold winter night enjoyed with some friends is a lot of fun.

I love to make the Pineapple Upside Down Cake this time of the year as it is so festive looking and makes a great dessert for company.

Christmas treats to make and give as gifts are the Chocolate Almond Toffee that my friend Monteana always sends to us and which we look forward to every year. The Fleur de Sel Caramels and the Chocolate Orange Biscotti are great gifts.
